Climate change impacts people differently – influenced by, among other factors, gender, class, ethnicity, age and (dis)ability. Effective adaptation to – and indeed mitigation against – climate change considers and addresses these different realities and also ensures that investments are targeted where they are needed most.

This event will provide an introduction to how and why climate change is a gendered issue before exploring case studies and key lessons learned by SNV, UNDP and PACJA from several developing countries (Vietnam, Thailand, Kenya) on promoting the voices of women and youth in climate change response.

Moderator: Tom Derksen, Managing Director, SNV, Vietnam

Speakers:
- Wanun Permpibul, Director of Climate Watch, Thailand
- Tran Tu Anh, Programme Manager CSA and Gender, Vietnam
- UNDP/CCWG Vietnam representative
- NDA Vietnam (representative from MONRE)
- Charles Mwangi, Thematic Lead PACJA, Kenya

Accelerated private sector investments are needed to close the gap in adaptation and mitigation financing, but large-scale action is lacking. Most businesses and financial institutions to date are unwilling or unable to take the lead in the necessary paradigm shift. They may not be fully responsive to the impacts of climate change due to a lack of understanding of their exposure or vulnerabilities. Also, they not might be able bring their innovation to market or to scale proven concepts due to a lack of funding.

Using the hard-talk format, the session partners will identify the current realities for business opportunities in climate action, showcase the possibilities of developing and growing profitable climate smart business opportunities and the role public interventions have in this process.
